Research conducted by LUT University in Lahti

Clean energy, water and air are life-giving resources for which LUT University seeks new solutions with its expertise in technology, business and social sciences. LUT helps society and businesses in their sustainable renewal. LUT’s international community consists of over 9,000 members, and its campuses are in Lappeenranta and Lahti, Finland. LUT is one of the world’s top universities for climate action.

LUT has operated in Lahti since 1996 and on the energy-efficient campus on Mukkulankatu since August 2019. What began as a regional unit has grown into a campus of over 150 people. Read more about LUT’s experts.

All of LUT’s schools – the LUT School of Energy Systems, the LUT School of Engineering Science and LUT Business School – are active in Lahti. Activity on the Lahti campus is strongly cross-disciplinary. In Lahti, the research fields are sustainability science, biorefinement, computational engineering, knowledge management and industrial engineering and management.

The Lahti campus houses a modern fibre technology research laboratory as a result of cooperation between LUT and ANDRITZ Ltd. LUT has also established Finland’s first electric transportation professorship in Lahti. Find out about our professorships in Lahti.

LUT is a significant actor in research and corporate collaboration in the Lahti area. In Lahti, LUT especially promotes sustainable business and companies’ innovation and renewability capabilities. LUT continues to expand its research and teaching activities in Lahti and also internationally. The THE World University Rankings and QS World University Rankings have listed LUT University among the world’s best universities.
