Science 2 –course

The upper secondary schools in Lahti area have been cooperating on “Vesijärvi” –course for many years. During the last few years the course has evolved into Science 2 –course that is attended by the upper secondary schools in Lahti and students from the upper secondary schools in St. Petersburg.

Science 2 –course is organized by the upper secondary schools of Lahti in collaboration with Lahti Region Development LADEC Ltd. and LUMA- centre of Päijät-Häme. The course is attended by 15 students from St. Petersburg and 15 students from the upper secondary schools in Lahti in addition to teachers from Russia and Finland.

The course emphasizes introduction to the ecologies of Vesijärvi Lake and water systems in general. Among others, environmental themes relating to the Baltic Sea. We study, for example, nutrients and consider their influence to the aquatic ecosystems and think about how to prevent environmental problems. The course is made up of two parts. The first is held in Lahti in the beginning of September and the second in St. Petersburg in October. The working language of the course is English.
